Rights on Show

0 Comments 29 November 2009

"The Last Wave, Lotus, Sinew" by James GastonRights on Show, the annual Human Rights Art Award and Exhibition hosted by Darwin Community Legal Services (DCLS) is now entering into its 15th year. This time around, they’re featuring 10 different award categories, and will be opening up to new forms of media this year by including the new Multimedia/Short Film Award.

The exhibition has grown enormously since its humble beginnings in the back room of the DCLS offices, to now becoming a major arts event in the foyer of the NT Supreme Court.

There are also two award categories for schools: the Primary School Award and the Secondary School Award. Schools are able to submit works as a school or for individual students, and a staff member of DCLS is available to visit schools and deliver workshops around Human Rights.

The exhibition opening coincides with the United Nations International Human Rights Day on December 10, and will be on display until the 18th. Early in 2010, a selection of artworks will tour to Palmerston, Katherine and Alice Springs.

Entries into the Awards are open until December 7, and this year’s theme is “Working Together for Human Rights”. Entry forms and details can be found on www.rightsonshow.org.au.
