The Territory’s finest upcoming creative minds organising and running their own exhibition
CDU’s art and design departments want to make a point – they’re damn creative folk.
And while the poor taste of a cheap pun at the expense of my dignity may prove to be a lousy trade off, you can rest assured the university’s creative types will be punning long into the night on the 29th of October as they celebrate the opening of the Point exhibition, a large scale, multi-faceted exhibition involving the architecture, graphic design, multimedia, fashion, fine art and photography departments.
Essentially, it’s an exhibition for absolutely everybody studying art and design at CDU. And it’s being orchestrated by the students… with the occasional prod from the course co-ordinators.
Graphic design tutor Julie Fairless explains to me the scale of this exhibition, and how the students are making it happen. “In terms of what students are doing, you have a committee, who work with staff and facilities people to put together everything, from what’s in the show to organising security to sorting out where the banners are going to go to actually designing and printing the banners. So we’ve had to do the real-life, practical and business side of things, as well as the creative side of things.”
“The design exhibition will be across this building, the architecture will be in the amphitheatre… the idea behind “Point” is that there will be different points of interest around the campus.”

Throughout the week-long exhibition, talks will be held daily in different creative departments, so if you’re in or around the campus it’ll be worth dropping in and keeping updated.
